Bully Busters Seminar (September 26, 2010):
Stop me if I’m wrong, but I’m sure your child has at one point been bothered by, or even been verbally assaulted by an older, or more aggressive student at their school. Maybe it even went a little further…maybe there was some pushing or maybe a punch was thrown. If there was abuse such as name-calling, or assault such as touching in a threatening manner, something can be done. We don’t have to accept this! In fact, Kick Masters can teach your child to understand and resolve conflicts nonviolently through a special program that combines the disciplines of education, psychology, and the practice of the martial arts…The Bully Busters Seminar!
Most attempts at conflict resolution focus primarily on resolving conflict after it begins. But we can end attacks sooner. There is a proven and innovative program developed by martial arts pioneer Dr. Terrence Webster-Doyle (educator, author, Ph.D. in psychology, and Sixth Degree Black Belt) being taught at Kick Masters. Author of the internationally acclaimed, award winning Education for Peace series, Dr. Webster-Doyle’s “How to Defeat the Bully Without Fighting” program teaches young people that total set of skills they need to feel confident to resolve conflict before it begins. It combines physical self-defense skills, which gives a young person the confidence not to fight, with mental self-defense skills, which gives the ability to resolve a potential threat peacefully. Along with character building, this program focuses on understanding the primary factors that create conflicts in relationships. It also addresses the secondary causes and teaches young people “12 ways to walk away with confidence.” This program is being used in schools, martial arts studios, and other educational settings internationally. It is a nonjudgmental, nonsectarian approach to understanding how to non-violently resolve the challenges of human relationships.
There is a unique program held at Kick Masters titled, “The Bully Busters Seminar.” This program, taking place on September 26th at 5:30PM (ages 6-8) and 6:45PM (ages 9-12), will focus on 12 steps to verbally defending one’s self against problematic bullying by using both verbal and physical drills. The curriculum presented in this seminar has been road tested over the last 6 years at Kick Masters, and is extremely effective to get away from bullies with ease and with much needed confidence.
The Bully Busters Seminar is open to any child between the ages of 6-12. Our main goal with this program is to inform you that we as martial arts instructors, want to work together with you as parents in developing a team approach to support young people’s efforts to cope successfully and humanely with the violence they face daily. Bullying happens in 90% of young people throughout their lives, and we want our students to be able to handle themselves effectively when bullying situations arise.
If you are interested in the class, please register on-line by going to the contact section and sending an e-mail requesting your child's name be put on the class list, or give us a call at (301) 689-8874. Registration begins in late August 2010!
